Whitener toxicity

2021-12-22

1. Absorption amount and metabolism of fluorescent whitening agent on skin

The amount of fluorescent whitening agent that may be absorbed by human skin when contacting food wrapping paper containing fluorescent whitening agent is 0.001-0.03 mg/d.  Fluorescent brighteners are not absorbed in animals.

2, dermal allergy

The irritation of various fluorescent brighteners to dermis is basically non-existent.

3, the impact of the wound healing process

The healing process is independent of the use or absence of products such as bandages containing fluorescent brighteners.

4. Phototoxicity

Fluorescent whitening agents are not phototoxic to humans.

5. Photosensitivity

Fluorescent whitening agents are not photosensitive to humans.

6. Soil effects

Most papermaking wastewater treatment plants treat effluents containing fluorescent brighteners by transferring them to activated sludge using a three-stage treatment technique. This sludge may be used for soil filling, soil conditioning or as fertilizer. It is necessary to understand the transfer rate of fluorescent brighteners in sludge.  So whether fluorescent whitening agent can be bioenriched in soil has been studied.  Experiments have shown that fluorescent brighteners are unlikely to transfer from the silt to the soil, and are only found where silt is used, while plants only adsorb fluorescent brighteners to their roots.
